Share your original pet with the world

OpenPets is free and open source. Help grow a catalog of 1,200+ desktop companions that walk, sleep, and play on developers' screens everywhere.

Pixel-art illustration of an artist at a desk drawing sprite frames on a tablet while a corgi pet comes alive and trots off the screen.

What to send

A pet is one spritesheet with 9 animation rows: idle, run right, run left, waving, jumping, failed, waiting, running, and review. Up to 8 frames per row.

Review

Live preview of Corgi Scout: every row plays in the app depending on what your coding agent is doing.

Original work only

We publish art you made or hold a license for. Fan art of someone else's character can't go in the public catalog, but you can still run it locally.

  • Your own original characters and designs
  • Licensed or CC0 / public-domain art, with the license noted
  • Copyrighted characters, logos, or traced art without permission

Credit that follows your pet

Every published pet gets its own page with your name, handle, and links. Wherever the pet goes, the credit goes with it.

How review works

  1. 1

    Open the form

Fill in the GitHub submission form: pet name, a short description, your spritesheet or a link to it, and who made it.

  2. 2

    Human review

A maintainer checks the sheet plays cleanly in every state and that the rights are clear. Usually within a few days.

  3. 3

    Published to the catalog

Your pet gets a page, appears in the gallery and the desktop app, and anyone can install it with one command.

Before you submit

  • Spritesheet is a WebP or PNG with 9 rows in the standard order
  • Frames are evenly sized and aligned on a grid
  • The idle and running rows loop without a visible jump
  • You own the art, or the license allows redistribution
  • A name and one-sentence description are ready

Don't have a spritesheet yet? Draw one from scratch, or generate, preview and package one with the community-built OpenPet Hatchery.
